The Peruvian version of the worldwide television game show “The Moment of Truth” debuted in Lima in mid-2012. El Valor de la Verdad (The Value of the Truth) was the show’s name in Peru. The show’s format is the same as it was in the rest of the world: a contestant is invited into the station and asked a series of questions, some of which are harmless while others are uncomfortable or even cruel.

Each question and its corresponding response would have been recorded. The participant is then called back a few days later to go through the questions again, this time in front of a studio audience. Contestants are rewarded monetarily for providing accurate answers to the polygraph questions. If a contestant lies, or the polygraph indicates they lied, they will lose everything. When there is a lot of money on the line, the questions are more controversial. A participant may withdraw from the round after each response. The show was hosted by Beto Ortiz, who was voted Peru’s most influential TV journalist in a nationwide poll at the time.

I have written over 100 true crime stories here on Medium, but not anymore as it took a toll on my health. Now I write about whatever makes me happy.
