Inspired by the Plot of a True Crime Book, a Grandmother Hired a Hitman to Murder Her Daughter-In-Law
Alexandra Pesic was born in 1966 and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. Her parents came from Yugoslavia and moved to Canada to find better prospects. Alex was extremely close to her mother, Zdenka Ignatovic. She came from modest means, but her parents worked hard all through her upbringing to ensure she was cared for.
Her friends fondly recall her endearing qualities and wicked sense of humor. She was tall, blonde, and elegant, and as she got older, her good looks and charisma made her the center of attention. She entered the Miss Canada competition at only 19 years old.
Alex landed a job as a dental assistant at age 20 after finishing high school and competing in Miss Canada. She and her mother enjoyed going to open houses, fantasizing about all the possibilities, and admiring the gorgeous mansions they may one day own.
Meeting the love of her life
Alex and Zdenka were chatting in their native tongue at an open house one day when they were overheard. It was a couple around the same age as her mother, and they reacted enthusiastically to hearing a language they were familiar with so far from home. Jelka and Sam Pesic introduced themselves as Yugoslavian immigrants.
